Detox Like a Celebrity
Exclusive tips from the Mayr Clinic’s detox program
Skin complaints like acne are caused by bacteria and an excess of oleic acid. Ideal face oils for this skin type include oils that have a greater concentration of linolaic acid. This helps to minimise breakouts and balance the skins sebum levels.
Oils like grapeseed and sunflower oil balance the skin’s fatty acid profile, pH and prevent the overproduction of oils and breakouts in the skin. Mimicking the molecular structure of sebum, jojoba oil is an excellent universal oil and it is highly compatible with all skin-types. It makes the perfect carrier oil for this skin type as it tricks the skin into stopping over-production of oil.
If you have oily skin, ensure you only apply the oil once a day to avoid overproduction. As your skin produces less sebum at night, we recommend applying face oils before bed, rather than first thing in the morning.
For sensitive skin types, the application of suitable face oils helps to create a protective barrier and deliver hystration to the skin. Simple blends that contain less than five oils are the most ideal for this skin type.
To avoid irritating the skin, we recommend avoiding oils with high essential oil content like tea tree, geranium and lemongrass.
Essential oils like chamomile and lavender are great for reducing redness and irritation. Light oils like almond and evening primrose oil are perfect for soothing and softening the skin. Used for centuries in Asia to achieve a natural glow, studies have shown that Camellia oil decreases the production of enzymes that cause inflammation, with a higher antioxidant content than most botanically derived oil.
For drier and more mature skin types, oils are an effective medium of delivering moisture and nutrients to the skin. Unlike creams, oils are able to pass through the lipid layer of the skin more quickly, preventing water loss and injecting the skin with moisture. By delivering nutrients deep into the skin, oils also serve as great carriers for anti-aging active ingredients like retinol and vitamin C.
Dry and mature skin require intense revitalisation. Floral essential oils like lavender, jasmine and rose help to regenerate dry skin and provide a valuable source of nutrients. Mature skin responds well to resins like frankincense and myrrh. Resins help to stimulate circulation, lift and tone the skin.
If you suffer from rosacea, anti-aging products containing AHA, retinol and vitamin A should be avoided. Instead, jasmine oil is a great oil for targeting this condition. It helps to increase circulation and restore radiance. If you have dry or mature skin we recommend applying oil twice daily, as part of your morning and evening routine.
